Get a life people

Really upsetting to read about the "new year" groping incident in the news paper. How sad it is that in this so called free country, a couple cannot go out on their own. It wasn't just girls hanging out alone, they were with their partners. And even if they were with their families, if there is a mob of 40 drunkards coming towards you, you really can't do anything you know.

The other day we were having a discussion about this in office. One guy was saying, the girls are so provocatively dressed!! That makes me think, we still have a bloody Islamic mentality. If we are still thinking that girls should be clad in saris and burkhas all the time, what is the point in calling yourself a person from developing country. Its high time men in this country should realize that a woman is something more than a thing from which you can derive sexual pleasure at free will. They have a mind and brain of their own and they should be given certain respect.

The most surprising part was the reaction of the Police Commissioner. According to him, this thing was blown out of proportion. Would it still have been blown out of proportion if it was his sister or wife in the place of an NRI couple? Even if the culprits do get sentenced, the will be out in a year or two to live a new life. But what about the girl who had to go through the whole trauma. Her reputation is marred, dignity is gone down the drain and her life is basically screwed.

All said and done, if this is what happens on mumbai roads at nights, I or any other girl in her sane mind, won't like to be outside just to have that extra bit of fun. The city is slowly turning into a dwelling place of morons. Sad... Really sad.

What People!

Interesting incident today. I was traveling in a train and a nicely dressed girl was sitting next to me at the window seat, apparently listening to "escape" on her nokia phone. She had a big travel bag on her lap. After bandra station passed, she just opened her bag and threw a banana peel out of the window. Then took a banana out of the bag and started eating it. I was really psyched at the sight and was determined that i wont let her throw the peel of the banana she was eating outside.

When the banana was over and she was all set to throw the peel out, I just told her not throw it and instead give it to me. After getting embarrassed because of people staring, she kept the peel inside her bag. But I happened to hear the passing comments "Ek ko rokne se kya hoga... maine platform pe to nahi pheka..."

This is the problem with our Indian mentality. We expect the whole world to change without making change in our own thinking. How can everyone change overnight when every individual should be making incremental change in his habits. I get so mad to see people spitting on the roads. No, these are not the rickshaw walas or the roadside labours. These are well clad people, the very same people who will go to US, wont spit on the roads there and say that India is a fuckall country and there people spit on the roads.

More we talk about this, less it is. Anyways, I have the satisfaction that I saved a banana peel from getting thrown on a railway track. Who knows, it would have been thrown on some road, or that girl will think twice before throwing any garbage on the roads or may be she is thinking that I am a bitch. Even the Batti Bandh guys were accused of almost causing power failure all over mumbai. Such a noble cause and that also brings criticism. We just don't seem to take good thoughts with good spirit. Everything good hearted come with a side effect which is not so good. What to do... thats just us!

Another interesting incident. Today the autoguy in whose auto I came home, was conversing with me in English. I was really impressed and tipped him 3 bucks. Thats a lot from a miser like me who does not let go of 1 rupee to a rickshaw wala.
